Research Project Portals

Dasha Zhernakova

I have obtained my Ph.D. in Bioinformatics at the Genetics department of the University Medical Center Groningen (University of Groningen), the Netherlands, in September 2016. During my Ph.D., I aimed to get insight into disease mechanisms by studying the effect of genetic variants on gene expression using eQTL mapping and various omics data integration techniques.

Now I’m working as a postdoc at the Dobzhansky Center for Genome Bioinformatics, where I focus on understanding population-specific genome differences for both medically and functionally-relevant genetic variants and on estimating sample ancestry in relation to other modern and ancient populations.

My research interests include omics data integration, understanding disease mechanisms, reconstruction of human history using ancient DNA and other.
