Alexey Makunin



Aleksey Makunin graduated from Department of Natural Sciences of the Novosibirsk State University in 2011. He specialized in molecular biology and performed research as an undergraduate student in Animal Cytogenetics laboratory of ICBFM SB RAS under supervision of Dr. V. Trifonov. His diploma thesis subject was molecular organization of B chromosomes of collared lemming. After graduation Aleksey continued his research work in Comparative Genomics laboratory of IMSB SB RAS as a PhD student, keeping the same project.

General interest of Aleksey Makunin in the Dobzhansky Center for bioinformatics includes genome assembly and annotation of mammalian species as well as comparative genomics. Another field of interest is chromosomal evolution including questions on emergence and development of sex chromosome systems and B chromosomes.
