Lab’s retreat in October 2016

Traditional laboratory’s retreat held twice a year this year has a specific. The invited guests of the retreat this year were representatives of rectorate of the University, including Scientific rector-deputy S. Aplonov, the first rector-deputy I.Dementiev, and also director of the scienepark S.Mikushev and director of biobank A. Glotov.
So the retreat became extended presentation for rectorate the project, implementing by T. Dobzhansky Centre called Genome Russia.
With restriction of time of Rectorate members the presentation was short and the total duration of the retreat was less than 4 hours.

Conference in Skolkovo “Genome Russia”

Retreat. Spring 2016

Last weekend we had spring retreat where all the lab’s member talked about their achievements and interests.

Visit and Seminar

Tatiana Tatarinova, professor from UCLA will held a seminar in The T. Dobzhansky Center. More detailed information about the seminar will be announce soon.

Delegation visit

In a recent time a delegation from Teheran State University (Iran) will visit The center. Expected to make a join scientific seminar and discuss possible cooperation.

Genome Russia samples

For Genome Russia project, 917 blood samples accumulated in The Center from representatives from Bashkiria, Kabardino-Balkaria, Kalmykia, Karachevo-Cherkessia, Komi, Tatarstan, Chechnya, Krasnoyarsk, Fat East, Khabarovsk, Arkhangelst regions, Nizhni-Novgorod, Tverskaya region and Sankt-Petrsburg. Most of the samples passed DNA selection procedure, quality control and ready for sequencing. The first 4 DNA samples already sequenced in SPbSU’s platform “Illumina 2500″. The results demonstrate both: that it possible to sequencing and need to improve quality of sequencing.

Retreat in April 2016

Traditional for T.Dobzhansky Center local conference (retreat) will be in April 2016.

Congratulation to Dr. Vladimir Brukhin to win a grant competition.
Russian Foundation of Basic Researches selected the winners of competition for a proposals of mutual cooperative projects between Russian and Indian research groups. There were 145 proposals and only 50 includes into the list of the winners and one of them, headed by Leading researcher of The Laboratory “Genome Bioinformatics

Dr. Vladimir Brukhin and Professor of University of Zurich, Grossniklaus Ueli won a competition of mutual projects between Russian Foundation of Basic Researches and Switzerland Nation Science Foundation. The Title of the project is “Sequencing, assemble and annotation of high heterozygous genome of apomictive plant “Boechera divaricarpa”.

“Plagues, Populations & Survival”, Professor Stephen J O’Brien

The gold rush of whole genome sequences spurred by the human genome project, is heralding a new way to study the previously unanswerable from pre-history; allowing us to now mine the genomic footprints of ancient defining events of humankind and other mammals. As early paleontologists conjured up extinct forms based on fossil remains, genetic archaeologists reconstruct the origins of genomic patterns derived from ancient demographic episodes. (more…)
